Valentine originated from the time of the roman empire where marrigae was banned becaause the Emperor thought marriage was a form of distraction for married men who are soldies and outlawed marriage for young men.
St Valentine, however didn't believe in this notion and was holding marriage ceremonies in secret, when the Emperor found out, he punished St Valentine but this act has not become world renowed Valentine's day.
A day set aside to honour the heroic acts of St Valentine by sharing love amongst ourselves.
